- Caring about one's own state of physical appearance drops. I don't care about checking to see if makeup or hair is perfect; rather, it's more about catching the correct bus on time in the morning. Besides, who cares?
- Everyone here rides a frickin' bicycle. This makes one who cannot yet ride one feel a wee bit inadequate. (Naturally, the only way to fix this one is to actually learn to ride, which will be rectified shortly.)
- Germans (at least Celle Germans) are very musical.
- You will get the weirdest mistrustful glances from pedestrians whenever you smile at them. This has lightened up since my last frustrated post.
- Second breakfast is like first breakfast, only with cake.
- Bees like ham. Seriously. They like it so much, they won't leave one alone until they are allowed to land on the sandwich, take two minutes to munch off a piece of said sandwich, and fly away with their tasty ham morsel. I paid around 2 euros for that sandwich, dammit, so you can bet that I continued to eat it.
- The other English TA here is awesome, and I can't believe how lucky I am to have friends either in Celle or ridiculously close by. Bill, this means a trip to Hannover SOON. -ish.
- I cannot, for the life of me, make a decent cup of coffee in Germany.
- MY CITY HAS A CASTLE, AND YOURS DOESN'T.
- Dryers are a rarity in German homes. I find this awesome. You will also not see an air conditioner, but you will see radiator heating.
- Items are smaller in German grocery stores. And, no, I have not cooked myself an actual meal, yet.
- My city also has a fresh market every Saturday, and you can bet your bottom dollar that I'll be there whenever I'm in the city.
- Skype really helps with homesickness, along with Facebook, Blogger, and other online goodness. Shut up, haters. You see me skatin', you hatin'.
- Good schnitzel was found at an "American" restaurant.
- German bakeries are my idols.
- I'm good with kids, even though I will probably never be able to understand Kinderdeutsch.
- I can do this, even though I'm probably a poor choice at this stage.
